Stratford-on-Avon

A town synonymous with William Shakespeare.

stratford-on-avon-shakespeareWelcome to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, steeped in culture and history. Set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire countryside, on the banks of the river Avon, it is one of the most important tourist destinations in the UK.

With easy road, rail and airport access, it is the perfect place for a vacation or short break. Facilities for conferences and smaller business venues are excellent.

Using the Stratford district as a base, you can enjoy the delights not only of Shakespeare's hometown, but also the nearby surrounding shire counties of Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. Enjoy Blenheim Palace and the Cotswolds to the south, Worcester and the Malverns to the west, Warwick Castle and Henley in Arden to the north, and all within an hour's journey of Stratford itself.

Any visit to Stratford would not be complete without finding out more about the English poet and playwright who has made it famous. Visit the house where the world’s most famous playwright was born and grew up to discover more about his early years.

Other must see Shakespeare locations include Hall's Croft (home to William's daughter), Nash's House and New Place (the last chapter in his life), Anne Hathaway's cottage (a romantic setting) and Mary Arden's Farm (the childhood home of Shakespeare's mother).

Another must is the world famous Royal Shakespeare Company and its home, the Courtyard Theatre, showcasing Shakespeare's finest work.
